Keeping CPD up to date not only enables members to maintain their professional competence, but also ensures peer and public confidence.
If you are a Technical, Certified and Chartered Members, or a Chartered Fellows, you will need to complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) annually.
Fulfilling this CPD requirement not only shows other members are committed to their ongoing learning, it also demonstrates their professional competence.
EIGHT UNUSUAL ACTIVITIES THAT COUNT AS CPD
· Emergency preparedness: writing or researching for the plan or participating in an emergency exercise.
· Audits, inspections, site tours: activities that demonstrate you’ve learned something new or have updated previous knowledge.
· Wider learning: delivering or contributing to training, presentations and materials, such as guidance or standards that help others to develop and progress in their profession.
· Volunteer work: anything that enhances OSH practice, such as training to be a first aider, participating in a fire and rescue evacuation, running a book club or speaking about OSH in schools.
· Mentoring non-OSH professionals: this raises risk management awareness, helps to promote a positive OSH culture, and has the potential to cultivate a pipeline of future OSH professionals.
· Hobbies and interests: recreational shooting, home improvements and flying small aircraft all require research.
· Travel or working abroad: experiencing different safety cultures and reflecting on good practice in different parts of the world is invaluable.
· Undertaking food hygiene training.
